Ian Berry (Denimu)
You already know his stuff, so I’ll forego a description. I will say that the newsstand is one of the coolest things I’ve seen from anybody in the last few years. he’s definitely getting better with every effort. Also - when you click on an image, give it a sec to load - they’re huge high res images to see detail.

The detail in his pieces are amazing, I’ve represented miniaturists before, but I’ve never seen anyone deliver the fine detail that he does. he wears diamond cutting glasses while he works, as a result, if you look at these with a magnifying glass, there’s even more detail you can’t see with the naked eye.

Look closely at this stuff, it’s unbelievable. it’s not spray paint, it’s colored thread, pushed across a beeswax covered panel with a toothpick. it’s a traditional technique of the Huichol people of Mexico (laura’s Mexican) the technique is called cera de Campeche. Again, amazing stuff

These are all built of broken beer and wine bottles. The backstory behind how Andres came to this technique always makes me smile. He’s married to Laura Ortiz Vega (the artist featured above). One night they were both drinking quite a bit and, as is known to happen, they began to fight. the fight came to screeching halt when Laura threw a beer bottle against a wall and stormed off. Andres began playing with the broken shards that night, the next day, this art was born…

I love his work!!! I have his stuff all over my house! Also, he was making this stuff to illuminate his house for years without ever thinking to commoditize them. Finally, after a lot of pushing and cajoling from his friends, he began showing them. He’s been something of a rockstar in the lowbrow community ever since.
